1925 Hispano Suiza woodwork - BEFORE we restored it.

The pictures below, are to show you what the various parts looked like Before we restored this set of woodwork.

There were repairs we had to make on almost every part.
Wood was chipped out and the ends were cracked on these parts.
Besides the cracks, even small things like nail holes and irregular shaped holes needed to be fixed before we could begin the restoration.
Of all the parts, these were in the best condtion.

Here you can see the ends broken off the door panels.

These are the ends that were broken off.

Here you can see that the veneer has delaminated and is falling off.
Above are the front door capping rails. The top portion is the woodwork that you see.  The sides of them were covered in leather.
Above are the rear door capping rails. The top portion is the woodwork that you see.  The sides of them were covered in leather.
We don't know where these were used in the interior...but they are quite complicated.

These are the longest trim parts of this set of woodwork.

The finish on most of the parts had worn off long ago, but fortunately the woodwork had not rotted.

These parts had a combination of exposed woodwork as well as "upholstery" that was tacked to each of them.
This is one - of two - of these trim parts, and both of them also had the same combination of exposed woodwork as well as "upholstery" that was tacked to each of them.
The backs of all 4 of these parts had mounting "reliefs" cut into them.  Because we never saw the car, or pictures of the wood in the car, we don't know where they were used.  But we made sure to "finish" both sides just in case both were seen.
These trim strips were still solid and not cracked.
Obviously, the slot cutout didn't need to be precise.
The storage tray was barely holding together.  All of the individual components had pretty much come loose from each other.
Although you can't see it from this angle because the veneer is covering them up.  The wood substrate at each corner had split open.
If you look closely at the right corner of the front section, you can see one of those splits.  You can also see the veneer delaminating.
We have to admit, that the old "masters" that made this storage tray put a lot of time and effort into it.
Here you can see what we were talking about.  You couldn't see this in the pictures taken from the front.  Look closely and you can see that none of the parts are tightly bonded to any other part.  We had to disassemble the whole thing and bond everything back together.

This is the bottom of the storage tray, and it was the only part that still had some finish left on it.
